Parascientific Escape: Cruise in the Distant Seas—originally released in Japan as Chou Kagaku Dasshutsu Story – Zekkai no Gouka Kyakusen—is a visual novel adventure game created by Intense Ltd for the Nintendo 3DS. It made its debut on July 9, 2014. Much like Spike Chunsoft’s Zero Escape series, this title blends narrative-driven visual novel storytelling with immersive escape room-style gameplay.
Players take on the role of Hitomi Akeneno, a teenage psychic who sets out to uncover the strange and unsettling events taking place aboard a luxury cruise liner. The game alternates between dialogue-rich scenes—presented in classic visual novel style—and interactive point-and-click puzzles, where players must use clues and tools to break free from locked areas and move the story forward.
Hitomi, a 16-year-old high schooler, hides an extraordinary secret—she possesses two distinct psychic abilities. Invited aboard a lavish cruise ship with her friend Chisono Shio, her voyage takes a dark turn the moment she enters a suite and a sudden explosion traps her inside. Was it just an unfortunate accident—or the start of something much more dangerous? Using her supernatural gifts, Hitomi must navigate the peril and find a way to escape before it’s too late.
